Nicole McBride is a second grade teacher at Pinewoods Elementary School. Nicole has stood out as a leader and advocate for children in our community during a time that has been unlike any other. Being a teacher is extremely hard, but being a teacher in a pandemic is unmanageable for so many yet here they are supporting and teaching our children not only the curriculum but also how to adapt to this crazy new world we are living in. Now go ahead and add child who has a medical condition that affects her physically, emotionally and cognitively. That takes a truly special person to take on. One child's parents are who nominated Nicole for this award. Nicole McBride is an asset to our community and to our children's future which is why we are proud to honor her with this years Vocational Service Award.
Literacy Council Receives Gifts

We’re on a roll! After a successful End Polio Now FUNdraiser, our Sunset Rotary Club hosted another Social and FUNdraiser on November 24th. We all brought books and supplies to donate to the Literacy Council Gulf Coast that teaches young children to read, and English as a second language for adults.
Rotarian, Bryant Olson, General Manager of the local Hampton Inn and Homewood Suites and Jesica Rybak, Market Director of Sales & Marketing for the Homewood & Hampton hosted our Rotary Club of Bonita Beach Sunset for a meeting outdoors by the pool for a pizza party. It was a fun evening seeing everyone. We all took turns sharing what we were grateful for this Thanksgiving. Then Susan Holman Schad, President /CEO of the Literacy Council Gulf Coast told the club about the good programs they offer and their need for more tutors, especially seniors, to read to children and adults to learn English.
Can I Use My Dictionary For The Spelling Test?

On October 4, 2019, The Rotary Club Of Bonita Beach Sunset participated in a district wide effort to delivery a dictionary to every 3rd grade student. Member of the club handed out Dictionaries to 7 Third Grade Classrooms at Rayma C Page Elementary School.
The distribution of the dictionaries is a part of the Dictionary Project’s (www.dictionaryproject.org) mission which is: “… to assist all students in becoming good writers, active readers, creative thinkers, and resourceful learners by providing them with their own personal dictionary.”
During the delivery, Rotary members helped children understand what a dictionary is and how to use it.
The dictionary contains: a complete dictionary of words; information about the U.S. Presidents, Maps of the seven continents, information about the 50 states, Weights and Measures, Sign language, and much more.
Upon passing out the books in one of the classrooms one of the children excitedly exclaimed, “Oh Cool! Can we use these during our spelling test today?”
Our club is pleased to be a part of this Literacy Program and we know that the dictionaries are appreciated and used.
